On The RIverwalk

Trying out some picture posting.

Today I went on my first major training hike to see what sort of shape I'm in.  I walked along the Chatahooche Riverwalk in Columbus, starting from the base, lunch downtown and back.  Total distance was about 18 miles.  I did it in just over 6 hours, including an hour break for lunch.  That's certainly faster than I'd walk if I had a 35 lb pack on.  My feet feel alright, couple sore spots, but my legs are killing me right now.

Surprisingly, this is the first time in 2 1/2 years of living here that I've spent much time on the riverwalk.  It runs about 14 miles total from the North part of downtown Columbus along the river all the way onto Ft Benning.  It's a paved 2-lane path popular with joggers and bikers.  It feels like you're in a park the whole way, I was expecting to see more buildings and houses along it.  I took a few pictures along the way.  I'll probably be going back any weekend when the weather is good enough.  Today was perfect, in the 50s and sunny; can't beat that.

  1. Way to go - you have started training and you have a blog! Awesome! What a beautiful place to hike. Your family is all behind you - and Brooke is jealous because it is something she has always wanted to do. So you will probably have family dropping in on the PCT hike - for short sections.
